Looking at the pigments from oak gall, cochineal and coreopsis- the dying results from three necklaces, fills my world with so much excitement and possibilities. I was so impressed with the beautiful palette created from our Los Angeles landscape and this is showcasing only three of the colors.
Back in June, I took part in a natural dye workshop hosted by Patagonia headquarters and taught by Rebecca Burgess. Niki Livingston showed the group how to create shibori designs (a resist textile dying process) on fabric swatches and I used the same technique to make three necklaces. It makes me appreciate where I live even more and the abundance of natural resources outside our front doors. These three necklaces were the result of the workshop and an introduction to natural dyes in my work.
